The tea party will prevent Obama's austerity package
In Barack Obama's skin would not stick it. For his life as president of the United States is currently out of sheer political dilemmas. For example, in terms of public debt. Austerity before important elections in a democracy not a good idea, so Obama has not addressed the issue before the congressional elections in the fall. But now he has lost the political majority to impose its ideas. Obama has acted to slow the brave and is trying to save what can be saved.
In terms of budget, he wants to submit on Monday a list of measures, budget cuts are to relieve the strapped U.S. Treasury in the next ten years by more than 1.1 trillion dollars. That sounds like a lot, but it is only a first step. For with its debt and budget deficit the U.S. is really bad because much worse than Greece, for example. So far done little to stop the downward trend. Finance Minister Timothy Geitner even warned of an impending state bankruptcy.
What of Obama's austerity package is known so far, sounds reasonable. A mixture of cuts in social spending and the military budget, increases in taxes on the wealthy and investing in new technologies like high-speed train. Only it will not come. For the important group of tea-party supporters at the Republicans have a unique understanding of freedom: For them, liberation is freedom of the rich with tax exemption of the poor and social benefits. Is a broad retreat the state also. Here in the U.S., more and more voices from the upper class are being made, the call for higher taxation of large incomes and wealth - especially the two richest Americans Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.
powerful as the Tea Party is now, they demonstrated last week when she plays just an extension of the Partiot Act in the House prevented an otherwise great-Republican issue, which gives the authorities wide powers to combat terrorism. Without it goes so well in terms of budgetary policy only slightly, if moderate Republicans will engage in negotiations with Obama.
Similar to the grand coalition in Germany this is a great opportunity for a common future-oriented action. But the political reality in such a situation is usually out on the lowest common denominator. Thus America's debt problems are not well resolved.
